The Plan

It's a common thing, right? Sooner or later the only obvious thing is to build a heavy steel bike, drape it with camping gear and--having found one friend to join you--head to Europe via some of the world's highest roads and worst drivers.

The finer details are less fixed than the general direction.

We were never going to ride an unbroken line. Distance, visas and new ideas--like our detour through the Gobi--have, as of mid-June, made Chinese trains and hitched trucks more familiar than our bikes. (We've started introducing ourselves as people who travel with bikes, not cyclists.) Fortunately, we're almost back to the cycling.

If all goes well we'll arrive in Turkey sometime around September. From there we'll play it by ear. After nine months together, we'll probably part ways. If you've got any suggestions (or better, chalets and wealthy relatives) drop us a line.

For now, here's the list of where we've been (with and without bikes) and our immediate plans from here:

Done:
  • India
  • Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)
  • Thailand
  • Hong Kong
  • China
  • Mongolia
  • China
To do:
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Tajikistan
  • Uzbekistan
  • Turkmenistan
  • Iran
  • Turkey
  • Europe...

PS: We'll put maps up one day.
